“…raucous carnival ride of a film,” sez Rochester’s Image Out L&G Film Festival

From Rochester, New York’s Image Out Lesbian & Gay Film & Video Festival comes a rave review Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same:

“A Sundance Film Festival official selection, Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same is a campy, tongue-in-cheek, sometimes touching, oftentimes raucous carnival ride of a film.

Lisa Haas is Jane, a kind, sweet-tempered, lonely lesbian working in a stationery store and seeing a therapist to try and figure out why she can’t seem to meet a nice girl with whom to settle down. She goes about her repetitive life, not really living it, but simply moving through it.

That is until the day she meets Zoinx (Susan Ziegler). Unbeknownst to Jane, Zoinx is one of three female space aliens who have been sent to Earth from their home planet of Zots to gather intelligence that could potentially save their kind. But it’s a task easier said than done.

The camp factor is high (I’m reasonably sure the space ship is made of an aluminum pie plate), and the story is both funny and sweet, but the stand-out feature of Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same is by far the acting. Haas is fantastic, in turns sympathetic and endearing. By a few minutes into the film, you want to be friends with Jane. Ziegler is especially amazing as Zoinx. She breathes unexpected life into a character whose face remains almost expressionless and whose line deliveries are deadpan. Her dance number alone will have you rolling with laughter.

Take a break from the real world and spend an evening with an average lesbian Earthling and some hilarious lesbian space aliens. You won’t be disappointed.”
